New Delhi, Oct 28: Bouyed by the successful commissioning of its Kashmiri Gate-Tri Nagar section, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation today announced a new user-friendly fare collection system to benefit its daily commuters.
Launching the red token, Lt Governor Of Delhi Vijai Kapoor said, "Delhi metro is among the most technologically advanced systems in the world and is at par with the ones operating in Hong Kong and Singapore. The introduction of this new fare collection system will make it more user-friendly."
Elaborating on the use of the token, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said, "the token will be used by the commuters during the return journey and will be valid for 24 hours. The fare will depend on the number of kilometers travelled."
The token will be made available for public use from November 01, Dayal said.
Impressed with the timely commissioning of the Kashmiri Gate and Tri Nagar section, the Governor congratulated E Sreedharan, managing director DMRC and said the cash registers had once again started ringing for DMRC once written off by the media as the traffic flow on the newly commissioned line has decreased by leaps and bounds with the rail corporation recording the highest traffic of 1,30,000 yesterday.
On the shortage of feeder buses, he said "with a lot of expenditure the asset has been created. It cannot be allowed to suffer due to poor interface with road. Consultants have been deployed to look into the problem. A meeting of DTC officials and traffic police personnel will be called to resolve the issue," he added.
He also laid emphasis on property development around the stations saying it could earn a large revenue for the rail corporation.
