New Delhi, Feb 19: In protest against the AIIMS' administration decision to rusticate six students, the students on Thursday boycotted classes and met Union Health Minister, Sushma Swaraj, asking her to resolve the issue. "None of the students attended the classes today protesting the administration's decision to rusticate six students. We met with Swaraj, apprised her with the situation and requested her to resolve the matter," president students union Kumar Vivek said.
The students union had asked the minister to direct the institute administration to accept their demands and revoke the rustication order, he said.

The minister was also apprised that charges framed against the students were "fabricated" and the "extreme step" was taken without a "proper ground," he said. On considering the students demand deputy director (administration) Mayank Sharma said, "We have agreed to accept all their demands but 75 per cent attendance, in principle."
The rule of compulsory 75 per cent attendance to appear in the exams was primarily implemented to lift the education standards in the institute, he said.
"Moreover, in case a student has some emergency which holds him/ her back from attending the classes, the director would use his power and let the student appear in the exams," he said.
When all the prestigious institutes across the country follow this rule why this hue and cry on implementing it in AIIMS," Sharma asked. Bureau Report
