Diphu, Sept 20: Altogether 50 militants have been killed in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district, 105 arrested and a huge cache of arms recovered by police since the last 18 months.

According to district Superintendent of Police K K Sarma, the slain extremists, included 15 from United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), nine from Dima Halong Daogah (DHD), 10 Kuki, five NSCN(I-M), four National Democratic Front of Bodolnad (NDFB), one Ulfa and six others. Sarma told reporters here last night that since he took charge in the district, 105 insurgents were arrested including 50 UPDS, 30 DHD, 6 ULFA, five Islamic militants, two each of NSCN(I-M) and Karbi Liberation Tiger, one each of peoples liberation army and NSCN-K, besides eight others. The arms recoveries included AK-56 and AK-57 rifles, besides other arms and ammunitions.

Twenty hand grenades, 7.3 kg RDX explosives, 50 detonators, 47 gelatin sticks, four walkie talkie sets were also recovered, the SP added. Bureau Report
