"If the present trend continues, the outfit will soon spread its tentacles and operate from their camps all over the state"' the Assam Rifles DG, who is also the ex-officio security advisor of North East Council (NEC) said while presenting security matters at the council's 48th meeting here today.
He said Bangladesh was supporting insurgency and madrasas there are being used as launchpads for ISI men and insurgent groups. That country along with Bhutan and Myanmar have become safe havens for Ulfa, Nscn(IM), KLO and other groups who are fast spreading their camps there.
For better control of the situation, he suggested that the entire NE be treated as an entity and there be a uniform security strategy for the region.
He also advocated revival of the Unified Command concept for the better performance of different security forces operation in the region. The absence of a Centralised Command for all the forces operating in the region was telling upon their performance.
There was also need for better coordination among the intelligence agencies in the region for "hard and actionable intelligence."
