Kolkata, July 03: The Calcutta monsoon meeting 2003, offering a total stake money of over rs 1.12 crore, would be held from today to October eight.
The racing would be conducted over 15 days with a total of 97 races, royal Calcutta turf club sources told newsmen here today.
About 257 horses would take part in the races during this session and the number was expected to rise as the season progressed, the sources said. In addition to the stake money, there would be a host of incentives and subsidies offered to owners and licensed trainers. The sources said that in an effort to provide greater competition, the stewards of the RCTC had decided that the stake money from this season onwards would be paid only to those horses finishing among the first four.

While the quantum of stake money per class had not reduced the amounts paid hitherto, the stakes for the fifth and sixth positions would be distributed amongst the first four horses.
