Four militants and three security personnel were among eight people killed in separate incidents while a Hizbul Mujahideen activist surrendered to BSF in Jammu and Kashmir since Friday night, official sources said on Saturday. A Hizbul Mujahideen militant Ghulam Jeelani Khan was killed and another militant was arrested by Special Operations Group (SOG) and army personnel following an encounter which broke out when the securitymen raided Wasoora, in the outskirts of Srinagar, to flush out militants, the sources said. Two militants and three security personnel were killed in an exchange of fire at Dera-Gool in Udhampur district on Friday, the sources said. A suspected foreign mercenary was killed in a gun-fight with security personnel during combing operations at Paheldaji forest in Kupwara district. An eight-year-old boy was killed and four children sustained injuries when an abandoned grenade exploded in Gurmul village of Doda district.
A sector commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Shakeel Ahmed pathan, surrendered to Border Security Force (BSF) authorities at Gool in Udhampur district, a BSF spokesman said. The militant handed over one AK rifle with four magazines and 85 rounds and two hand grenades.
