United Nations, Aug 20: The death toll from yesterday's deadly truck bomb attack on the UN headquarters building in Baghdad has climbed to at least 17 including the head of the UN mission in Iraq, the United Nations said. At least 86 UN staff were wounded in the blast and being treated in a hospital, said UN chief spokesman Fred Eckhard.
Another 22 were also hurt but required no hospital care or were treated for their injuries and released, he said.
The chief UN representative in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, was trapped in the rubble for several hours before dying from his wounds in the most devastating attack ever on a UN facility. Bureau Report
