Kochi, June 20: A geriatric day care centre, aimed at providing physical and mental comfort for needy ex-servicemen, will be inaugrated at the premises of Sainik ashram, at Kakkanad near here today, as part of a project of the Kerala Ex-servicemen Welfare Assocation (KEXWA).
Kexwa president, K B R Pillai, told reporters here that local residents would also be admitted to the centre. Medical care, including allopathy, ayurvedic and homeopathic forms of treatment would also be available, he said.
The centre will be inaugurated by Maj Gen V S Budhawar, director general re-settlement, Ministry of Defence.
Another project of the Kexwa, 'Sainik Vihar', a unique home for ex-defence personnel of all ranks, was expected to be completed by October this year, he said.
Sainik Vihar would have four types of accommodation, with all facilities. About 75 per cent of the construction cost would have to be paid by the residents, while Kexwa would bear the land cost and 25 per cent of the construction cost, he added.
