Gillespie, Macgill under a cloud for second Zimbabwe Test

Perth, Oct 12: Australian bowlers Jason Gillespie and Stuart Macgill are under a cloud for the second cricket Test against Zimbabwe starting Friday in Sydney after being injured in the current first Test here.
Australian physiotherapist Errol Alcott said today the pair's injuries were "concerning" and cast doubt over their availability.
Both players were forced to leave the fold here yesterday - the third day of the first Waca Ground Test. Officials said scans had revelead Gillespie has a possible tear of a muscle in his left side and Macgill has a tear of his right calf.
"Both injuries are fresh, so we will monitor their progress closely over the next 24 hours before coming to any conclusion about their availability for Sydney," Alcott said.
"However, given the nature of the injuries and the short amount of time between matches, it is concerning, and that puts a cloud over their availability." Gillespie felt pain yesterday, though wants to keep bowling, Alcott said, "but scans have revealed the muscle is strained, so in the interests of his longer term future, we need to hold him back."
Alcott said Macgill experienced sharp pain in his calf.
"It is torn, which is a genuine concern, considering it is his set-up and landing leg." The absence of both players left Australia short of firepower as they attempted to complete victory over Zimbabwe in the historic first Test between the countries in Australia.
