Torrential rains have claimed 12 lives in Andhra Pradesh the last two days, state relief commissioner D C Rosaiah said on Tuesday.
Nine persons, many of them residents of interior villages in Nalgonda district, were washed away by flash floods in rivulets and streams while three persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Guntur district, Rosaiah said.
About 9,000 houses in Nalgonda, Guntur and Mahabubnagar districts were damaged, he said, adding over 50 minor irrigation tanks also suffered damages.
However, there were no reports of crop loss, he said.
Meanwhile, according to meteorological authorities here, Monday's low pressure area over North Telangana now lies as a low pressure area over Vidharbha and adjoining western Madhya Pradesh.
Under its influence, moderate to heavy rain is likely at many places in Telangana districts and in districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours, the Met office said.
