New Delhi, Oct 01: With the threat of arrest of a Central minister under Pota looming large, BJP today favoured an early report of the review committee on Pota so that there is no "misapplication" of the law.
"It is very necessary for the review committee to give its report and there is need to evolve a mechanism to ensure that there is no misapplication of Pota. This mechanism could be similar to the one that was set up for Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA)," party president M Venkaiah told reporters at a luncheon meeting at the residence of Delhi BJP president Madan Lal Khurana here.
He said he had spoken to Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani as also Law Minister Arun Jaitley in this regard. He also met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee last evening.
Naidu said this mechanism was essential since any delay in the matter would only encourage opposition to Pota, which was not in national interest.
"Pota is essential to check the menace of terrorism in the country. It was enacted by convening of a joint session of Parliament and now this cannot be repealed," he said. Bureau Report
