Manila, July 24: An American tourist was banned from returning to the Philippines after he went hysterical at the airport for failing to get a window seat on a flight to Taiwan, an immigration official has said. Martin Sommerfield, 66, a resident of Illinois, was checking in for a China Airlines flight to Taipei late Thursday at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) when he blew his top and started screaming at people.
Ferdinand Sampol, head supervisor of the NAIA immigration division, Friday said Sommerfield became irate when he could not get a window seat on the flight.
''The airline employee told Sommerfield he would be given priority once a window seat becomes available,'' Sampol said. ''But he was not satisfied and started cursing the people at the counter.''
''The American became hysterical and shouted at all the people he saw,'' he added. ''He was accosted and held at the immigration office until he calmed down.''

Sommerfield, who was later escorted by immigration and police personnel to his flight, was charged with public scandal. He was also included in the immigration bureau's blacklist, banning him from returning to the country.
