Chandigarh, May 28: The CBI today said that it was making all out efforts to zero-in on the "absconding" Chandigarh judicial magistrate (first class) S S Bhardwaj allegedly involved in a corruption case and intelligence about his movements, contacts, hideouts and the people who could shelter him was being gathered. "We are at it. We have not given up our efforts. We have succeeded in other cases--catching criminals involved in even more heinous cases," CBI director P C Sharma told reporters here. "The CBI is not downplaying his (Bhardwaj's) running away from our custody. We are looking why it happened and try to draw lessons for future", Sharma said adding suitable action would be taken against any of the person(s) from the investigating agency found guilty of lapse. When asked that Bhardwaj had told a television news channel after his escape from CBI's custody that he was being unnecessarily targetted, Sharma said, "we have not targeted him and every information has been verified first and on its basis we have registered the case". The CBI recently booked Bhardwaj and Jalandhar district and sessions judge R M Gupta in a corruption case. While Gupta is currently in judicial custody, Bhardwaj's whereabouts are not known.
