Uproarious scenes were witnessed in Maharahstra legislative assembly on Friday when Shiv Sena-BJP Opposition raised the issue of gunning down of Bajrang Dal activist Lalit Jain in Powerloom town of Bhiwandi on Wednesday, forcing three adjournments of the house.
The saffron combine opposition stalled house proceedings demanding that question hour be set aside to take up the matter of Jain's killing, which had triggered tension in the communally sensitive town in adjoining Thane district. As soon as the house assembled, leader of opposition Narayan Rane, moving an adjournment motion under Rule 57 of the state legislature, demanded that question hour be set aside to facilitate a debate on Bajrang Dal activist's murder.
Rane was supported by Eknath Khadse and Raj Purohit of BJP. When speaker Arun Gujarathi turned down opposition request and called for question hour, Sena-BJP members rushed to the well of the house, raising slogans against the government, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for 15 minutes.
When the house reassembled, Gopinath Munde (BJP) stated that instead of arresting the accused, police cane charged those who had gone to pay their last respects to Jain. Bureau Report
