Ahmednagar, July 10: About 27 students of a Madrasa were injured in a clash between two groups of the same community in Muslim-dominated Kuran village in Sangamner Tehsil of the district yesterday, prompting police to strengthen security in the area. Twenty-eight persons have been arrested in this connection and cases have been registered against 41 others, police inspector Govind Pawar told a news agency here today adding that both groups have filed counter-complaints.
The trouble started after the students apprehended a motorcyclist on Sunday after a child was injured in collision. Irked over the incident, the rival group, that was unhappy in the way the Madrasa was functioning and alleged that the Madrasa misused its funds, allegedly attacked the students and beat them up, Pawar said. They also allegedly assaulted the Maulvis of the Madrasa, housing over 250 students, police said, adding security has been beefed up at the village.
The injured have been admitted to Sangamner rural hospital, police added.
