Hyderabad, Aug 24: In a surprise move, Telugu film star and BJP Mahila Morcha vice president Vijaya Shanti today said that she has rejected party's offer for nomination to Rajya Sabha and vowed to fight for the cause of Telengana.
"It would send contradictory signals if I accept the offer (Rajya Sabha membership) at a time when I am fighting for the cause of Telengana,” the top star of Telugu screen
told news agencies here.
Asked how she would pursue the Telengana cause, she said, "I will try my best to convince the party leadership on the issue".
Reiterating that she was committed to separate statehood for Telengana, Vijaya Shanti said, "to avoid confusion... I asked BJP leadership to delete my name from the list of nominations".
The film star said, "I am not after power and accepting the honour would tantamount to send confusing signals on my stand (on Telengana)".
Denying that she has left BJP, Vijayashanti said, "I am very much with the party". The glamour queen's rebuttal comes amidst reports that she has been moving around with Telengana Rashtra Samithi members.
