Bareilly, Feb 26: With Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee setting the ball rolling by wooing the minorities for the coming Lok Sabha elections, Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani on Thursday picked up the thread saying Hindu-Muslim relations have improved as also Indo-Pakistan ties under the NDA rule.
Addressing a rally to mark the second phase of the BJP's Lok Sabha poll campaign, he said there had been tensions and problems between Hindus and Muslims and had been aggravated by terrorist activities encouraged by Pakistan.
"However, relations between Hindus and Muslims have been improving. Muslims, who have been meeting me of late, said that relations between the two communities are improving".
He said during the recent visit by the Prime Minister to Islamabad, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who at the Agra Summit had said that what was taking place in Jammu and Kashmir was "war of independence", has now given in writing that he would not allow Pakistan territory to be used for terrorist activities which shows a definite shift in stand by that country.
Advani said it was under the NDA government headed by Vajpayee that Jammu and Kashmir was returning to normalcy and even the Hurriyat Conference has come forward for talks with the Centre. Bureau Report
