Four top officials summoned by JPC tomorrow in Waqf issue
New Delhi, Sept 22: Joint Parliamentary Committee on functioning of Waqf boards has summoned Delhi chief secretary and secretaries of Union Urban Development Ministry and Social Justice and empowerment besides Delhi Development Authority vice chairman in connection with encroachments and disputes of the Auqaf properties in the Capital.
New Delhi, Sept 22: Joint Parliamentary Committee on functioning of Waqf boards has summoned Delhi chief secretary and secretaries of Union Urban Development Ministry and Social Justice and empowerment besides Delhi Development Authority vice chairman in connection with encroachments and disputes of the Auqaf properties in the Capital.
The officials have been asked to appear personally tomorrow before the JPC headed by BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a press release said here today.
As per the record of the Delhi Waqf Board, 1977 properties registered with it include 827 mosques, 483 graveyards, 309 dargahs and 358 other properties such as shops and houses with a mere annual income of Rs three lakh.
On the basis of recommendation of Mir Nasarullah Committee in 1984, a total of 123 properties have to be transferred to the Delhi Waqf Board on terms which include that the transfer will be on perpetual leasehold basis on payment of nominal ground rent of Rs one per acre per annum and that the Waqf board shall not alienate or transfer the property, it said.
