Lakhimpur-Kheri (UP), June 12: Apprehending danger to their lives, family members of slain poetess Madhumita Shukla have refused to accompany the district police to Lucknow to register their statement before a magistrate. The CB-CID team, probing the murder case, had approached her family members to take them to the state capital under the security of the district police but they refused, sources said.

"We apprehend danger to our lives. We have no faith in the district police," Nidhi Shukla, Madhumita's sister said here today.

Terming the CB-CID inquiry as a "drama", Nidhi alleged that it was in fact a cover up to shield the real culprits.
"Why has the CB-CID not dared so far to quiz former minister Amar Mani Tripathi," she asked. Tripathi was said to be close to the poetess.

Nidhi said that the CB-CID may try to implicate an innocent person in the case as a scapegoat.

Madhumita's mother Shanti Devi demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
The poetess was shot dead at her posh paper mill colony residence in the state capital on may nine last.
