Kolkata, Mar 10: Three major bus operators of the city and neighbouring Howrah today threatened to go on a day's strike on march 24 in support of their demands which include withdrawal of excess fees levied on them and setting up of an impartial expert committee and professional consultant for reviewing the problems plaguing their trade. In a joint statement, the operators - minibus operators' co-ordination committee, Joint Committee of Passenger Transport (Howrah) and All Bengal Bus and Minibus Owners' Association - said that they will go on a day's token strike on March 24 if protest demonstrations did not have the desired result. The statement said that since August last year, the price of diesel has gone up by Rs 3.99 per litre, with the state government magnifying their woes by raising permit charges and other fees.
''We demand immediate withdrawal of the fees,'' the statement said.
