New Delhi, Mar 24: In a bid to clear the backlog of over 35 million jobs and to generate additional jobs during the tenth plan, government has proposed to launch three mission mode programmes on bamboo, bio fuel and drugs from medicinal plants. At a recently held meeting on the three projects with leading scientific laboratories, planning commission emphasised on developing new technologies for large scale resource generation through cultivation of specific plant species and their processing for various purposes, according to sources.
It also stressed the need for developing cost-effective high efficiency machinery and equipment, especially oil expeller and to improve various machinery and tools being imported for processing of bamboo to make them affordable and suitable to Indian conditions, they said.
The commission further called for greater interaction between various leading laboratories in the country and users.
According to a commission's report, the three sectors together can generate over 10 million jobs annually and can almost fill up the need for additional jobs required during the Tenth Plan.
