New Delhi, Feb 02: Sun shone on the second day of the 5th women's Asia Cup Hockey Tournament as did the players from the land of the rising sun who pounded a hapless Sri Lanka 21-0 while defending champions Korea thrashed Singapore 9-1 here at the major Dhyanchand National Stadium today. Playing their second Pool B match, Korea displayed superior skills and better ball control and Singapore just could not match their mighty rivals in any of the departments.

The defending champions stuck to their familiar ploy of attacking their rivals even before they could settle down and drew early blood , as early as in the second, minute through a field goal by Jong Fun Kim(1-0). Within another couple of minutes, they increased the lead through another field goal, this time by skipper Su Yun Choi(2-0).

Another two minutes and Kim converted from a penalty corner, scoring her second goal(2-0) and followed it with a field goal to register her third goal of the match(3-0).

Throughout the rest of the first half, Korea mounted pressure on the minnows Singapore and went on to take a 7-0 lead within 19 minutes.

The game was confined to the Singapore half and they were seen trying to block the goalmouth with as many players as possible in their attempt to thwart their rivals.

Because of their tremendous fitness, sheer pace, better anticipation and proper game plan, Korea never faced any serious threat from their rivals. Singapore players were often late in releasing the ball and that gave the Koreans ample time to catch up and by virtue of their better anticipation, they did not allow any rival move trouble their defence till the 30th minute when Singapore earned their only goal of the match.

Two Singapore players had failed attempts at the Korean goal after they were awarded a penalty corner. However, they were third time lucky as Q Hui's cracking shot beat the Korean goalkeeper.

Korea led 7-1 in the breather.

The second half saw the eventual winners getting a bit complacent and they could not keep the tempo of the first half.

Still they managed to score another couple of goals making it 9-1 o record their second straight victory after their comprehensive 15-0 win over Sri Lanka yesterday.

Meanwhile, Japan continued their impressive form as they pounded Sri Lanka by a whopping 21-0 margin in their second Pool B match today. Yesterday, they had trounced Singapore 15-0 to record 36 goals in just two matches so far.

This was a complete mismatch when Japan took on Lanka and the first goal in the very second minute gave inklings of things to come.

Lanka, with their limited experience, could not put up any resistance to the Japanese who toyed with their defence and scored almost at will.
