Karachi, Nov 13: Pakistani Coast Guard officers patrolling in the Arabian Sea today arrested 13 Indian fishermen and seized their two boats for allegedly entering illegally into Pakistani waters, an official said.
The arrests were made before dawn in waters about 100 km southeast off Karachi, Pakistan's main port, said Commander Mohammed Zakir, the agency's director of operations.
In recent weeks, the two countries have exchanged proposals for a hot line between officials to deal specifically with the arrests of fishermen, in an effort to cut down on the amount of time the men are held.
Last week, Pakistan freed 74 Indian fishermen as a good will gesture. India released 93 Pakistanis in return.
The latest arrests take to 28 the number of Indian fishermen being held in Pakistan, Zakir said. Bureau Report
