Patna, Aug 14: An all-party meeting called by Bihar Governor V C Pande today laid emphasis on intensifying the relief operation in the flood-hit districts with an appeal to the political parties to work in tandem to mitigate people's miseries. The meeting resolved to put the relief work in top gear providing adequate foodgrains and polythene sheets to the marooned people by engaging more motorised boats and helicoptors, according to official sources.
Chief Minister Rabri Devi highlighted the measures taken by the state government to fight floods and reach relief to the affected people. She said an all-party delegation from Bihar would meet Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee on August 20 to seek a special central assistance to meet the damages caused by the flood.
Rabri Devi said all the resources available with the state government were being utilised effectively for relief.

The Chief Minister urged the Governor to take up the matter with the Centre for providing financial assistance to mitigate people's sufferings.

Leader of the opposition in the assembly S K Modi called for constituting a commission of experts to survey embankments which had become redundant over the years.
