Srinagar, Aug 14: A major tragedy was averted in South Kashmir with the timely detection of two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices by security forces in Pulwama district, a BSF spokesman said today. The IEDs, probably planted by militants to target security vehicles and local politicians on the eve of Independence Day, were successfully defused without any damage, the spokesman said.
He said BSF troops assisted by police personnel noticed an IED weighing ten KGs planted inside a pipe near Rangmulla village on Pulwama-Tahab road on Monday.
In another incident, BSF troops detected and defused an IED weighing seven kg near Sahid Park in Pulwama town yesterday evening, he said. Both the IEDs were planted tactically to cause maximum damage to plying vehicles of security forces and politicians, the spokesman said adding "timely detection of the IED's by BSF averted major tragedies".
