Chandigarh, Jan 26: Manhunt continued for the fifth consecutive day today to nab the four persons, including three accused in the assassination case of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh even as police failed to get any breakthrough in the Thursday jailbreak from the high security Burail Jail here. Police parties were conducting intensive raids at possible hideouts of the four in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Delhi, police sources said here.

Several people have been questioned at many places but no arrests had been made so far, the sources said adding that the seven arrested jail officials, including Superintendent D S Rana were being questioned by Chandigarh Police.

Jagtar Singh Tara, Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh (accused in the assassination case of Beant Singh) and their helper, who is an undertrial in a murder case escaped from the high security Burail Jail on Thursday by digging a tunnel.

Meanwhile Chandigarh administrator O P Verma, who is also Punjab Governor, told reporters in Patiala that those found guilty in the jailbreak would not be spared.

The three-member special investigation team formed to probe the incident would go into every detail, he said.

Verma expressed the hope that the four undertrials would be nabbed adding that security for Beant Singh's family including his son and transport minister Tej Parkash Singh, his daughter Gurkanwal Kaur and widow Jaswant Kaur has been beefed up.
