In continued attacks on candidates in the run-up to the two-phase assembly polls in Manipur, unidentified militants on Tuesday opened fire at the houses of two contenders for the prestigious Keisamthong Assembly constituency. Official sources said the two-wheeler borne militants opened fire at the house of congress candidate of the constituency, l Jayanta Singh at Keisamthong at around 3.15 pm.
The ultras subsequently opened fire at the house of Singh's rival candidate, L Ibomcha Singh of federal party of Manipur, the sources said adding no casualty was reported in either incident.
Unidentified militants last evening fired from automatic weapons at the house of Congress candidate E Kunjeswar Singh for yaiskul constituency, sources said. Singh was not present at the time of the attack.
Singh's security guards returned the fire but casualty, if any, on the side of the assailants was not immediately known, sources said. Unidentified gunmen had on Sunday night also fired at the residence of former Assembly speaker and NCP nominee Sapam Dhananjoy of Thongju constituency in Imphal east district, the sources said.
A supporter of Dhananjoy was injured in the attack. Dhananjoy was not present at the time of the incident.
