New Delhi, July 15: Rain gods have smiled over the country - rains or no rains for the remaining monsoon season, Delhi has already received its quota of rainfall for the entire season while the country as a whole has got five per cent above normal rains for the period so far. "Delhi has got about 60 cm of rains for the monsoon season so far," Dr H R Hatwar from the Indian Meteorological Department told news agencies.

This is about 336 per cent of the normal rains which Delhi gets till 14 July, Hatwar said. The normal amount of rainfall for this city for the entire monsoon season is about 64 cm.

Even if there are no rains for the remaining period, the rainfall in Delhi would be taken as normal, he said.

For the period from June 1 to July 9, the country as a whole has got five per cent above normal rainfall. Of the 36 meteorlogical sub-divisions, 32 sub-divisions have reported normal or excess rains while only four have reported deficiency.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded a little deficiency of 20 per cent, he said adding upto 19 per cent deficiency is taken as normal rains. North interior Karnataka had 35 per cent deficiency, Andaman and Nicobar islands, 49 per cent while Kerala recorded a deficiency of 25 per cent.

Good rainfall has also improved the water levels in the country's reservoirs.

Hatwar said that monsoon was going strong and rains were expected in Central India. Monsoon trough was located south of Delhi and circulation was also building up to herald more rains for Delhi, he said.
