Srinagar, Nov 13: Weather has played spoilsport as
it prevented chairman of rebel faction of Hurriyat Conference
Syedali Shah Geelani from attending today's ftar party to be
hosted by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Geelani, who was scheduled to fly to Delhi, has been
stranded at the Srinagar airport since noon today as all the
passenger flights into Kashmir valley were indefinitely
delayed due to poor visibility, sources said.
The fog has engulfed most of the valley, including the landing area at Srinagar airport, resulting in poor visibility. Flights have been delayed and in all probability will be cancelled, an airport official said.
In case the flights in and out of Srinagar airport are cancelled, Geelani will not be able to attend the Pakistan High Commission's Iftar party in the evening.
The other separatist leaders, headed for the party and stranded at the airport include Mohammad Abdullah Tari of Democratic Freedom party led by Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Hakeem Abdul Rashid of Muslim League and Mohammad Yousuf Mujahid of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, chairman of the other faction of Hurriyat Conference, had turned down the invitation for Iftar, probably peeved at Pak High Commission addressing Geelani as the Hurriyat Chairman. JKLF leaders Mohammad Yaseen Malik and Javaid Ahmad Mir have also turned down the invitation as they are busy with signature campaign of the party, party sources said.
