Dhaka, June 27: At least 31 people, including two minors, were feared killed in landslides and floods triggered by incessant rainfall in two districts of southern Bangladesh, media reports said today.
Khagrachari hill district in southeastern Bangladesh, the worst hit, reported 20 deaths due to landslides and many were still feared trapped under the debris, local media reported.
At least two minors were feared killed in flash floods in Naokhali district, the reports said. Two persons, including a university teacher, were drowned in the port city of Chittagong after rains lashed the city, while five deaths were reported from the nearby town of Mirersharai.
Communication lines between Chittagong and three hill districts of Khagrachari, Rangmati and Bandarban remained snapped due to landslides and incessant rains, reports said. Officials said that heavy rainfall in the hill districts has resulted in a significant rise in the water level in several rivers, with some bursting their banks.
