Bhopal, Dec 07: Fiery sanyasin-politician Uma Bharati was today unanimously elected the BJP Legislature Party leader to become the first woman Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Bharti was unanimously elected the leader by the newly-elected MLAs of the state at a meeting at the party headquarters here.
Her name was proposed by senior party leader Gouri Shankar Shejwar and supported by Himmat Kothari.
Senior leader and Union Petroleum Minister Ram Naik and party`s national vice-president Pyarelal Khandelwal were present as central observers.
Prominent among the others present at the meeting were Union Law Minister and party in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Arun Jaitley and state party president Kailash Joshi.
Bharti`s election was only a formality as she had already been projected as the chief ministerial candidate in the run up to the December 01 assembly elections.
Soon after her election as the state legislature party leader, she drove down to Raj Bhavan to formally call on Governor Ram Prakash Gupta and convey the decision of her party.
She will be sworn-in to the top job at the historic Lal Parade Ground here tomorrow.
