Bastad, July 10: Spanish teenager Rafael Nadal thrashed compatriot Albert Portas 6-0 6-4 to reach the last eight. The 17-year-old from Mallorca fired spectacular winners from all angles as he set up a quarter-final clash with sixth seed Nicolas Lapentti.
Nadal has risen to number 71 in the ATP Champions Race after a succession of impressive performances.
He beat Carlos Moya and Albert Costa on clay in the spring before reaching the third round at Wimbledon.

Lapentti defeated Romanian Adrian Voinea 6-4 7-6 to set up the encounter with Nadal.
Russian fourth seed Mikhail Youzhny beat Argentine Franco Squillari 6-1 5-7 6-2, while fifth seed Mariano Zabaleta demolished Swedish wildcard Bjorn Rehnquist 6-1 6-2.
