Paris, Aug 26: Gilles Panizzi will lead Mitsubishi's challenge when they return to the World Rally Championship next year.
"Joining Mitsubishi is the perfect solution for me," said the Frenchman, who is currently with world champions Peugeot.
"I have long stated that I wanted a full WRC program and I believe the long-term agreement we have will be beneficial for everyone."
Mitsubishi, who have released Briton Alister McRae, pulled out of the championship at the end of 2002 to take a year's sabbatical. "We are taking our return to the sport very seriously and Gilles is part of our commitment to a successful future," said Mitsubishi's rally team head Sven Quandt.
