New Delhi, Dec 24: Union Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry is considering to set up an International Olympic Committee (IOC)-accredited dope control centre in the 10th Five Year Plan.
Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha yesterday, Minister of State Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel said that a centrally sponsored ''scheme for dope test'' had been launched in the 10th Five Year Plan which included an IOC-accredited dope control centre.
The Sports Authority of India already has a Dope Control Centre (DCC) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which has ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17025 certifications -a must, according to IOC norms, for permanent accredition.
India's dope-related regulations would be harmonised in tune with world anti-doping code and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Minister said.
Informing that ten coaches have been suspended after their wards failed in drug tests, Goel said objectives of the ''scheme for dope test'' in the 10th Five Year Plan included educating athletes, coaches and others about the the harmful effects of dope.



In-competition and out-of-competition dope tests would be conducted and the National Sports Federations had been asked to take actions against sportspersons found guilty of doping, he informed.



Replying to another unstarred question, the Minister highlighted the corporate support for promotion of sports in the country.



Informing about a seventh December meeting with leading Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the Minister said, ''pursuant to the discussions in the meeitng, Sports Authority of India (SAI) has entered into an MOU with FICCI. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has entered into an MOU with cii for cooperation in the field of sports. CII has also agreed to support five sporting disciplines of their choice till the Athens Olympics 2004. CII, through its Golden Hopes Scheme, has identified four exceptionally talented sportspersons for support till the Beijing Olympics 2008.''



Meanwhile 84 Olympians are receiving pension from the government under the sports fund for pension to meritorious sportspersons, the Minister informed replying to another question in the house.
