Nagpur, Dec 07: The multi-crore fake stamp paper scam is likely to dominate the proceedings of both the houses of Maharashtra legislature during its winter session, commencing here tomorrow. Arrests of senior IPS officers, including former Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma and other senior police officials like Sridhar Vagal in the scam, are expected to provide enough weapons to the opposition to attack the treasury benches.

Opposition would also raise issues of regional importance like demand for separate statehood for Vidarbha, suicides by farmers, inadequate price to cotton growers and irrigation backlog of backward regions.

The saffron parties are already in an upbeat mood as BJP has gained power in three states and also due to favourable results in the state legislative council polls. After Sharma's counsel informed the court that 19 names of alleged beneficiaries in the scam figure in Telgi's diary, it has sparked a fresh round of debate and opposition is trying to gain access to these names to exploit the situation.

However, members of treasury benches are training guns on then revenue minister Narayan Rane, who had issued vendor licence to Telgi during his tenure.

The ruling alliance has claimed that the scam started during the regime of saffron alliance and Shiv Sena-BJP government failed to estimate the gravity of the situation, magnitude and implications.
