Imphal, Apr 05: Vice president of Manipur BJP unit N Tombi Singh who had narrowly escaped an assassination bid by militants on March 30, resigned from primary membership of the party on Monday. Singh said in a statement said he had submitted his resignation letter to the party president Chaoba Singh, whose resignation or removal from the party was demanded by separatist Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL).
KYKL had earlier threatened to kill all important office bearers of the party if Chaoba Singh was not removed from BJP presidentship by February 15 last. The militant outfit had earlier said it attempted on the life of Tombi Singh on March 30 because he (Tombi Singh) was a staunch supporter of Chaoba Singh.
Tombi Singh had narrowly escaped when unknown militants opened fire at him at his house near Imphal.

BJP sources said so far at least ten office bearers, mostly those who were in charge of district committees of the party, had resigned from their respective posts and primary memberships of the party.

Sources said party's state unit secretary Kh. Saratkumar had also earlier resigned from his post and primary membership of the party.
