Beijing, Aug 11: China's ruling Communist Party would hold a key meeting of top cadres in October to chalk out plans to rejuvenate the economy as well as to discuss a proposed amendment to the Chinese Constitution, it was announced here today. The third plenum of the 16th central committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be held in Beijing this October, the state-run Xinhua newsagency said.

No specific dates were provided.

"The plenum will mainly discuss how to further improve China's socialist market economic system, and deliberate a proposed amendment to the constitution," it said. The decision to convene the plenum was made at a meeting of the politburo of the CPC central committee here today, which was presided over by general secretary of the CPC, Hu Jintao, who is also the president of the country.

Previously, top Chinese leaders held the meeting in the north China sea-side resort of Beidaihe.
