Chandigarh, Aug 01: Health services in Punjab are likely to be affected from tomorrow as over 3,500 government doctors in the state go on a "work to rule" protest against the government's decision to abolish their non practising allowance (NPA), but authorities said alternative arrangements would be made.
Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) association said doctors would be available in various government hospitals, dispensaries and health centres only for six hours in the morning.
State health director D P S Sandhu told reporters that the government had received no such notice from the association but would work out "some alternative arrangements."
PCMS association patron Dr M S Randhawa said "government doctors will not be attending call duties from tomorrow. No operations and other surgeries would be performed in the evening and night."
He told reporters that more than 300 government medical college teachers had decided to resign enmass to protest the state government's decision to withdraw NPA.



There are three medical colleges in Punjab, in Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot.
