The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) has formed special operation groups in each of its battalions to curb militancy in Tripura. CRPF’s Vageesh Mishra told newsmen in Agartala that in order to enhance the striking ability and fire power of the forces, the para-military force jawans were being trained by the National Security Guard at the counter-insurgency jungle warfare school at Vairengte in Mizoram. Sophisticated weaponry had also been introduced to give the central force an edge on matters of fire-power to combat tribal guerillas equipped with modern arms and ammunition, he added.

Mishra said following the selective killings and counter-killings of political parties' supporters, operational strategy of the CRPF had been revised. Relay counter-insurgency operations were being undertaken and the intelligence set up had been geared up for this purpose, he added.
Of the 14 CRPF battalions deployed in Tripura, 32 companies were engaged in anti-insurgency operations, he said adding that the para-militalry force, along with the BSF, Assam rifles and state police, had been conducting continued counter-insurgency operations in the state. Bureau Report
