Dehradun, May 17: With temperature rising in the hills, the glaciers situated at the higher Himalayas are receding fast increasing the water level in the river Bhagirathi and its tributaries, officials said.
The Bhagirathi river was flowing on Monday at 640 metre recording a net increase of 1.5 metre flow in the river water during the past two days at old Tehri town.

Officials attributed the increase in the flow of river water due to rising temperature in the upper reaches of Himalayas stating that glaciers like Gangotri are receding fast.

Met director, Anand sharma said that temperature in the hills was mainly rising due to the blowing of hot winds which were probably coming from Rajasthan deserts.

If the trends continues, the temperature may register further rise in the hills, he said.

In the hilly areas like Mukteshwar in Kumaon region, the minimum temperature has gone up to 17.4 degree celsius.

Dehradun city recorded the hottest day of the season with temperature rising to 41.4 degree celsius. Bureau Report
