Madras High Court on Tuesday fixed August 27 for commencing hearing of appeals filed by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa against her conviction in two Tansi land deal cases by a special court.
Justice R Balasubramaniam fixed the date after the special public prosecutor K V Venkatapathy sought six week's time to commence the arguments on the appeals stating that only on Monday he had received the government order, appointing him to represent the case.

Venkatapathy, a former advocate general, also said he needed adequate time to go through the voluminous pertaining to the case, which he received only on Monday.
N Jothi, counsel for Jayalalithaa objected to six weeks time sought by the public prosecutor, pointing out that on July 23 last, a division bench of the high court had appointed him to represent the case.
