Shillong, May 28: Elaborate security arrangements have been made in view for the 12-hour bandh in four districts of Meghalaya called by the Khasi Students union to protest a shoot-out that had claimed a civilian's life in the city. Special patrolling of national highways would be taken up and special police pickets posted at strategic place, DIG (eastern range) B L Buam said yesterday.
Tight security arrangement was also made for the state capital, he said adding however no preventive arrest was made so far. Prohibitory orders have been clamped in all four districts to prevent any untoward incidents, he said.
Office-goers wishing to attend work would be provided with security, Buam said.
The three Khasi hills districts and one Jaintia hills district will come under the purview of the proposed bandh. The strike has called by the KSU to protest the shoot-out in the city on Friday night in which one civilian was killed and a CRPF jawan injured.
The union president Samuel Jyrwa blamed the central police for the incident and demanded its withdrawal in and around Shillong. Bureau Report
