Shivani Bhatnagar murder case turned hostile today and refused
to support the prosecution case.
Deposing before Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Gaur,
accused Sri Bhagwan's father Omkar Singh - himself a retired
cop - denied having told police that prime accused senior IPS
officer R K Sharma came into contact with Bhagwan while the
former was posted as superintendent of police in Sonepat in
1983.
He also replied in negative when asked whether Bhagwan had worked as a property dealer or that co-accused Ved Prakash and Ved alias Kalu, who are Bhagwan's relatives, had assisted him in the business.
Declining to identify accused Satya Prakash, Singh denied that Prakash and his son were friends or that Prakash had been a tenant of the latter. The second witness, who turned hostile today was one Sanjay, who runs an STD booth in Gurgaon.
Sanjay said he had been running the booth since November 2000. He admitted that police had come to his booth on August 20, 2002, but denied that they had brought along accused Satya Prakash.
The witness denied having stated that Prakash, who came along with police on that day, had said that he and Bhagwan had come to the booth on Janaury 23, 1999 - the day Shivani was murdered - and made a call to one Ravi Kant in Mumbai.
Six accused, including R K Sharma, are standing trial for the murder of the Indian Express scribe.
