Kabul, July 13: A suspected rocket exploded near the fence surrounding an air base that serves as the headquarters of coalition forces in Afghanistan, the US military said today.
No injuries or damage were reported in the incident
late on Friday at Bagram Air Base, an hour's drive north of the capital, Kabul, the military said in a statement.
"The attack is under investigation," the statement said, giving no other details.
Attackers have fired scores of rockets at US bases in southern and eastern Afghanistan, but attacks at Bagram are rare. The base serves as headquarters for some 11,500 coalition troops, including 8,500 Americans, who are deployed in the country to hunt down remnants of the ousted Taliban regime and their allies.
