Santiago, Feb 18: Former Chilean soccer star breaks his silence regarding his break-up with fiance days before their wedding.
Former Chilean soccer star Ivan Zamorano broke his silence on Tuesday (February 17) and headed off the wave of rumours over the reasons for the surprise cancellation of his marriage to a local model. Thirty-seven-year-old Zamorano and Maria Eugenia Larrain cancelled their wedding on Thursday (February 12) despite elaborate preparations for a Saturday (February 14) celebration that boasted some 600 people on the guest list. Zamorano blamed the media exposure of their relationship for the break-up.
"I believe in a break-up of a relationship, it is the fault of both people. I think that at the beginning, when we made the decision to get married, I thought that we would want something simple and after we were enveloped in this over-exposure, nothing could help us find our way back as a couple and we began to have communication problems," he explained.

After the cancellation of one of the most anticipated social events in Chile, rumours began flying. Local media speculated that in the days prior to the wedding Larrain had an "affair" with her ex-boyfriend, Spanish tennis star Carlos Moya.

Another local media outlet questioned the sexual orientation of the former captain of the Chilean team. Zamorano said he would take legal action against the television commentator who suggested he may have homosexual tendencies.

"And I spoke with my lawyers and I am going to lodge an accusation because I am not ill-disposed, I am absolutely not ill-disposed. I am a good person, I am a person who has principles, I am a person who feels very proud of the values that my father and my mother have given to me and for all the suffering my family is going through because of this," he said.

Zamorano left the door open for a possible reconciliation with the Larrain, the woman who he said "was the love of my life".
