The Jharkhand Assembly was adjourned for a short while on Tuesday when agitated opposition members demanded immediate withdrawal of the Prevention Of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO).
Demanding a categorical statement from the chief minister over the reported implementation of the ordinance in the state, the Opposition rushed to the well of the house and shouted that they would oppose POTO's implementation in Jharkhand. Opposition leader Stephen Marandi raised the issue during Zero Hour and urged Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari to direct the government to state whether POTO was implemented in Jharkhand as reported by a newspaper in Ranchi. The Speaker said that in the absence of the chief minister, no other minister could be directed to make a statement on the matter.
He then requested the leader of the opposition to raise the issue during the scheduled meeting of the business executive later on Tuesday. However, the Opposition continued to stall the proceedings of the house. Failing to restore normalcy, Namdhari adjourned the house for five minutes during the pre-lunch sitting and asked the leader of the opposition to his chamber for a meeting. Later, when the house reassembled, the chair called upon Marandi to take up the issue during the post lunch session allowing him the time to make a statement on the floor of the house.
