Ahmedabad, Dec 28: A high-level Central team of experts, probing the "mysterious explosion-like sounds" being heard in Rajkot district and adjoining areas of Gujarat for the past few days, was planning to set up a "workstation" to study the phenomenon.
In-charge district collector Pankaj Rawal said from Rajkot that the team would install a workstation in some area of the district as they require a few more days to reach to some conclusion. The team members were touring the city and adjoining areas of the district to collect primary information from people and local experts regarding the mysterious phenomenon, he said.
The explosion-like sounds were being heard at regular intervals for the last few days, the latest one being heard late on Thursday night in Laxmiwadi area of the city. Two houses in the area were damaged and others developed minor cracks following the sound, official sources said. Head of the team Dr A K Shukla, of the central seismology division, was, however, not available for comments.
A devastating earthquake had rocked Kutch-Saurashtra region of Gujarat on January 26, 2001, claiming hundreds of lives and causing widespread damage.
