Kolkata, Sept 20: The Samajwadi Party today ruled out the possibility of the party joining any front at the national level but said that it has improved its communication with congress and had "no basic problem" in accepting Sonia Gandhi as Prime Minister if the latter came to power.
"Samajwadi Party has decided not to join any front since our past experience on 'morchas' is not good. None of the previous fronts -- either with Laloo Prasad Yadav or the People's Front survived. The People's Front broke up on the issue of supporting A P J Abdul Kalam for the post of President," SP general secretary Amar Singh told a meet-the-press programme at the press club here.
Singh, however, said that SP has 'improved its communication' with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and "we are in constant touch with each other. It is a big development." He said that Samajwadi Party has invited the Congress to participate in its government in Uttar Pradesh and party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav called on Sonia Gandhi first after assuming charge as Chief Minister.
To a specific question, Singh indicated that SP was no longer averse to accepting Sonia Gandhi as the Prime Minister saying, "We don't have any basic problem. The rest is in hands of the Congress leadership. The issue should be decided by the Congress leadership in case the party comes to power after the next Lok Sabha election." Bureau Report
