Cooch Behar (WB), July 18: A fire broke out in Tufanganj Bazar in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district in the wee hours of today gutting 23 shops, according to fire brigade sources. The fire broke out at 3.15 am and gutted about 23 shops of the market before it was extinguished by fire tenders, divisional officer, fire brigade (Jalpaiguri division) Pankaj Mohan Chaudhury said. Chaudhury said that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Yesterday some 44 shops were gutted in the Nishiganj Bazar of Cooch Behar town when a fire broke out. The secretary of the Cooch Behar district merchants chamber of commerce, Rajendera Baid demanded an inquiry into the two "mysterious" incidents of fire in the district within a span of 24 hours.
