Dhaka, Jan 13: At least 24 suspects were being questioned today following a bomb blast that killed three people and injured 26 near a Muslim shrine in northeastern Bangladesh, police said. "Among the 24 there are several women," police officer Shafiqul Alam said by telephone from northeastern Sylhet district.
Some of those being questioned had been attending the "Urs", the annual religious congregation for Muslim saints currently taking place at the shrine of Hazrat Shah-Jalal, where the bombing occurred late yesterday.
Alam told police were still hunting for clues in the bombing, the first such incident to hit the 700-year-old shrine.
"Everything is under control now," Alam said.
Another officer, who would not be named, said devotees had returned under tight security to the shrine this morning.
He said activities at the Hazrat Shah-Jalal shrine were normal, with hundreds of devotees reciting from the holy Koran and praying at the grave of the Muslim saint.
"Those who come here do not fear anything and they returned to their normal chores even before the sun came out," the officer told.
He said police, troops and paramilitary Bangladesh rifles were guarding the shrine complex.
